Liu Xinyi is an artist based in Beijing. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the Sculpture Department, China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, and his Master of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths in London. Liu works on various mediums including installation, moving & still images, and context-specific projects. Liu Xinyi is interested in how individuals understand and respond to the technicalization of politics. He starts by verifying widely accepted political common sense and later develops in tracking the communication of ideologies in the transnational public sphere represented by satellite TV, commercial films, online encyclopedias, and social media. In recent years, he starts his search for social spaces in reality with attention to the social construction of the Chinese body, from which he inquires about the key details of the underlying technologies that continue to build modern governance. Liu seeks to extend his research and interpretations on the multiplex coordination of biopolitics in the 21st century through situational reconfiguration.
