| About: | |
Shang Yixin was born in 1980 in Zhejiang, China. Shang graduated from the China Academy of Art Department with an MFA in Oil Painting in 2007. He currently lives and works in Hangzhou. Shang Yixin's practice traverses painting and installation, and is especially marked by his persistent attempts to employ varied mediums to convey artistic ideas. The mutually dependent, mutually molding, and mutually transforming relationships between light, matter, and shadow constitute a motif that has always interested the artist. In his work, Shang Yixin endeavours to transform a balanced force between the body and matter, as well as the artwork's dedicate tension between the structural order and spontaneous creation, into a cartography that explores and presents the invisible, intrinsic forces of spirit and life. Shang Yixin's solo exhibitions have been held at Beijing Commune (2023, 2016, 2013) and Red Bridge Gallery (2007). His works have been exhibited at numerous museums and institutions, including Wind H Art Center (Beijing), G Museum (Nanjing), Hubei Museum of Art (Wuhan), Beijing Minsheng Art Museum (Beijing), Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai (MOCA Shanghai) (Shanghai), How Art Museum (Wenzhou), San Antonio Museum of Art (Texas), Asian Art Museum of San Francisco (San Francisco), Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts (Nanjing), Rubell Family Collection and Contemporary Arts Foundation (Miami), UCCA Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing), CAFA Art Museum (Beijing), CAA Art Museum (Hangzhou), Liu Haisu Art Museum (Shanghai), and Shanghai Zendai MoMA (now Shanghai Himalayas Museum) (Shanghai). His works have also been featured in the first Beijing International Art Biennale (Beijing), TANK Art Festival (Shanghai), and ART FIELD NANHAI (Guangdong). |
