You Yong (b. 1988, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province) currently lives and works in Beijing. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the Chinese National Academy of Arts, where he is now affiliated with the Oil Painting Institute. Rooted in academic training, his artistic practice spans portraiture, landscape, and still life, grounded in direct observation while exploring the dialogue between oil painting techniques and traditional Chinese aesthetics. His works embody both classical spirit and contemporary sensibility. You Yong has studied and copied masterpieces in museums at home and abroad, seeking to integrate Chinese and Western artistic languages into his own creations. Representative works include Sketching the Sea Creatures, 777 Xinhua South Road, Painting Allegory, Fulfilled Crossing(the rain), and the "Zhong Nanshan" series. He has also experimented with evoking the poetic realm of Chinese landscape through the medium of oil painting. He has held solo exhibitions such as Learning and Practicing and Breaking the Theme in Beijing and Hong Kong, and his works have been shown in major institutions including the National Art Museum of China and the Tsinghua University Art Museum. As an active young painter, he continues to construct a diverse pictorial language, grounded in solid technique and enriched by a cross-cultural vision. |
