| About: | |
Rong Shi is an astronomical artist working across China and the UK. Her inspiration stems from a lifelong passion for astronomy that began in childhood. Throughout her career, her innovative work has been driven by a desire to express the essence of cosmic order through art. Through real-time, dynamic, multi-sensory immersive interactions, she explores how to transform the "cold data" of reality into "warm data" meaningful to humans (and non-humans). This concept, viewing design as a catalyst for the complex interaction between the real world and human perception, has been a central theme in her academic and professional journey. Her recent research interests lie in metaphysically representing the observer effect in quantum mechanics through interactive installation art. Currently, Rong Shi is the resident artist for "Touch the Universe," the first interdisciplinary astrophysics and art residency program in China at Tsinghua University's Department of Astronomy. She is also an artist for the exhibition "Cosmic Elements," jointly organized by Nookland and China National Astronomy. From 2021 to 2023, Rong Shi pursued and obtained her master's degree at the Royal College of Art in the UK, supported by the Chinese Scholarship Council. Rong Shi's work has been recognized by prestigious institutions and platforms. She was selected and commissioned by the British Royal Family and the BBC to create a series of artworks for the coronation of the King and Queen. These works were showcased at the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle and broadcast to 12 million people worldwide by the BBC. Additionally, her artworks have been exhibited at Pompidou IRCAM Forum (Paris), New Art City Festival (London), IKLECTIK (London), Klimt02 (Barcelona), Beijing Design Week, The first China Digital Art Exhibition organized by the Chinese Artists Association (Hangzhou), China Resources Tower Art Center (Shenzhen), and featured in China Daily and People's Daily. In academia, Rong Shi has served as a teaching assistant for the Immersion Studio in the Information Experience Design master's program at the Royal College of Art, collaborating with NASA, Scene Everything, and Worldview Space on educational projects. |
