Fascinated by imagery that seems to slip from one subject and reference to another, Song's works often rupture a viewer's expectations to draw unexpected connections between natural objects, the human body, and lived experiences. A hyperrealistic sculpture of a strawberry appears at first glance as a pumping heart—a metaphor for the red-blooded intensity that fills human bodies with passion and desire. Each seed appears as a sculpted form denting the vibrant red surface. White paint outlines areas hit by light, simulating the fruit's juicy sheen. And the green leaves that top its body unfurl in a slick texture. Nature's bountiful creative license is here offered for visual pleasure, evoking a sense of sensorial resplendence in tasting, touching, and looking.

Yet upon closer inspection, pure representation gives way to symbolism. Resting in a pool of juice, the strawberry seems to bleed, warning against the overripening of desires. A second sculpture, the same as the first save for its chromatic blue coloring, extends this metaphor. Its absence of coloristic variety suggests a cold heart, only reflecting its viewer in its mirror-like surface. Like the fruit saved beyond its edible state, the passions of the heart must be cultivated and acted upon before consuming the desiring individual.
