This exhibition is a namesake showcase of Yang Yongliang's latest creation, Vanishing Shore, which marks his first venture into narrative filmmaking. In previous works, influenced by extensive traditional painting education, the artist developed his artistry on the basis of classical Chinese landscape paintings, continually employing modern digital imaging technology to explore the world of digital imagery. This creative process is infused with his complex emotions towards urban development and the vanishment of his hometown. Vanishing Shore revolves around the exile of two young children who have departed from their hometown to find solace by reaching the ocean, navigating the balance between freedom and regret. It also signifies Yang Yongliang's departure from centering his works around landscapes and architecture, instead placing human figures in the frame. Through camera, the artist concretizes his own and "his/her" inner worlds, serving both as their reflections on real-life experiences, and their interpretations of various aspects of societal reality.
