Reconstructed Scripts — Defocus and Encounter
When images are approached as scripts, viewing shifts from reception to engagement. Rather than presenting fixed meanings, this exhibition considers how images are unsettled, reworked, and encountered anew.
Feng Zhijia disperses the visual centre, allowing fragments, shadows, and peripheral details to come into focus. Xie Caomin draws on images of disaster, reassembling them into cyclical, mandala-like forms in which destruction and regeneration remain in tension.
Fu Yao treats the image as a site of encounter, where the self is staged, split, and revisited. Kang Shixin reworks literary sources through irony and displacement, creating slippages between text and image.
Chen Qiang and Jia Hui move in a different direction. Chen constructs a measured, almost scientific order, holding the image in a state of balance. Jia, by contrast, opens up spatial and temporal fields through abstraction, where forms appear, dissolve, and reconfigure.
Across these practices, images do not settle. They shift, fragment, and return—less as representations than as situations to be met.
